Eating

At a most primary level, our kitchens streamline the sequence of preparation, cooking and washing, but they are also designed to merge the intimate and more public nature of the kitchen space – as much a place to gather & entertaining as it is to cook.

Arriving

Arriving is a sequential process. There is the street and the door and there is something in between and then, there is the other side of the door.

Generosity at the entry is welcoming and sheltering. Paths that twist and turn to the front door are asking to be discovered on route. Straight paths imply an axis and beg for a vista…

Lounging

The name of the space never seems to satisfactorily explain what one does in a living space. We like to understand what you want out of your living spaces; are they used for entertaining, reading newspapers, watching TV, family discussions, to ponder on the horizon, or merely shelter to dream in peace; or all of the above.

Is it a space to make you feel safe, secure and comfortable or is it an extension of the outside?

Discovery

We would like to think that your eye is always moving around the space, discovering it, tracing along elements and sight lines, jumping from one light source to another, like an eye moves in a well composed painting.

Long after the project is finished, we also hope that you continue to discover the little nuances of the space you now inhabit.

Sleeping

A bedroom is not only about sleeping and a place to sleep not always a bedroom.

We design sleeping spaces to be soothing, calm and restful, not cluttered. We design children’s bedrooms conscious that they are often a child’s prime playing, working and storage space.

We control the sun to let you sleep longer or to wake you up, or help you nap.

Extending Space

We can borrow space from the next room above, below or to the side, or from the expanse of outside through openings in the walls and the roof.

Small spaces feel larger, and the eye is entertained by moving beyond the walls. One also senses more space when the ceiling, floor and wall planes extend beyond the confines of the room.

Bathing

We like to make bathing spaces functional; to provide them with good storage, to contain the splash, to remove the smells, and have all the bits function ergonomically, but to elevate it above the Everyday, they are spaces to relax, to think or to wake-up.

It’s also the one place where the sense of touch is most alive.
